    Default Front Range

Digging through the pile last night, put a Gospel recording by this band in the player.

Way good - vocally, instrumentally, band sound-ally. This band doesn't get a lot of press, maybe because their time has come and gone (I think). Mike Lantz (RIP) was a tremendous picker, and his Nugget sounded fantastic. I remember seeing them at Wind Gap one year, tore it up.

Anyone know if FR is still alive and well?

After Mike Lantz died in 2006, the band is pretty much on hiatus.

    From Bob Amos' web site.

Yea, where did Bob Amos go? He seemed like a more than decent writer to me.

Bob is living in Vermont now I believe. I emailed with him about a year ago asking questions about Front Range. You can probably still reach him through his website linked here http://www.bobamos.com/. Front Range was the real deal, I have all their CD's.

I saw, heard & met Front Range at the IBMA festival in Owensboro KY,in 1992 - they were a terrific band & i have one their first CD's. I hear them quite frequently on Bluegrassradio.org & i supposed that they were still together - sad news to hear of the passing of Mike Lanz,

I was there in Owensboro also. They showcased and were simply wonderful. They were signed soon after by Sugar Hill directly as a result of that showcase. I saw them a number of times at Merlefest also. The enthusiasm they had was just infectious and they seemed excited to play even in the smallest venues there. Great band and very humble. They were always open to talk to people after their acts.

Hey - Tony, were you at the outdoor Saturday night concert down at English Park in Owensboro '92,the weekend after the festival, when it just rained & rained & rained ............. ?. Oh boy,i was wetter than a fish !.
The kick-off concert on the previous Monday was no better. It was rained off & i'd never experienced rain like that before - it was a solid wall of water & the temperature indicators at the roadside were still saying that it was 70 Deg.F. We had to move back to the Executive Inn for the concert in the Auditorium.
That was my last trip to the USA & one i'll never forget. The following 2 weeks & me & my colleague from work, did nearly 3,500 miles through Tennessee,Kentucky & Virginia - an awesome trip that culminated seeing the 'Seldom Scene' at the Birchmere Restaurant the night before we flew home.
I wish i could do it all over again,
