Help educate me a little......I've heard of Dewey Farmer for years and I think he played on a few tracks of Butch Robins' "Grounded, Centered & Focused" recording. But other than that, I don't know anything about him. Anyone care to give me some brief background info?? Thanks

Excellent video. Dewey's Altman sounds great and Marshall is spot on as usual.

F5 Loar hopefully will chime in, as he knows Dewey well. I've jammed with the man and he is on it, with his own style and flair. His CD The Old Red Barn gets play.

I've jammed with him at Denton, and he's really fun to listen to. Very creative and original, kind of a cross between Herschel and Jethro, if you can imagine. He comes up with stuff, and I think "Oh man, why couldn't I think up something cool like that?"

Monroe got a lot of his 60's licks from Dewey. Enough said about the legendary world famous but never heard of Dewey Farmer of Kannapolis, NC. Dewey actually called me a few hours before the show and asked if I would go along to introduce him to Marshall. I guess he got introduced. It was the first time Dewey had seen Marshall in person.

Anybody know of a source for his recording? A Google search didn't turn up any usable info. Thanks!

Call him up, he's in the phonebook. I'm sure he'd love to sell you one.

And did you notice how Monroe would hold his right hand just like Dewey's. When Mike asked about the split string and if Monroe did that Dewey sorta acted like he died before he showed it to him. Hard to catch Dewey up on a Monroe tune he does not know. He told me one time he practiced 4 hours a day on just perfecting his mandolin sound. He never leaves the house without throwing an F5 in the trunk tuned and ready to go.

I think the only 'split string' playing Monroe ever did is when he caught the E string under a high fret on Bluegrass Ramble way back when.
