Well... today it's the jingle from a local car dealer's TV commercial...

I like to be the vector of earworms. I used to drive one of my college friends crazy by singing "I've got that joy, joy, joy, joy ,joy down in my heart. Where? Down in my heart..." from the Simpsons in my best Rod and Tod voice. It would only take two lines of it and she would be DONE for hours!

A former boss and I used to have earworm wars. We'd walk by each others office, stick our head in and sing whatever annoying song we had thought of. The king of all time was the theme to the old Green Acres TV show....

"Greeeen Acres is the place to be....."

That one would last for days!

Today it's Dingle Regatta, mostly because they were interviewing Rep. John Dingle (D-MI) on NPR. Sometimes Jenny Lind Polka, often Red-Haired Boy. I sorta whistle the tune under my breath.

Though, oddly enough, last night was Words by the Bee Gees. There'd been an item on Chelsea Lately about Robin Gibb fathering a child with his maid. Only takes a distant association to trigger a couple hours of obsession.

However, one of the all timers is Ieva's Polkka by the Finnish group Loituma. If you've never heard this one, go on YouTube and get one of the videos. The original had over four million hits before they took it off, and there are literally dozens of derivative videos. Here's the 1996 version -- my favorite.

I have a fool proof antidote to earworms... they can be banished by singing "Fish Heads"!

My own variety of this is almost always the last musical piece I heard, even a commercial jingle. My solution has been simple: replacement therapy...immediately fire up a bluegrass or mando CD, or a downloaded tune, and crank the volume.
