    Default Buzz?

Getting a buzz on the D string closest to the G. Thought it was maybe from the groove in the nut because if I put my finger on the string where it breaks over the nut, it wouldn't buzz. But then, if I fret at the 1st it still buzzes.
I'm pretty new to mandolins. Can anyone advise? It's an F style. Collings style tailpiece----I don't think it's coming from there.

This page on Frank Ford's www.frets.com is always a good place to start.
