From Saskatoon as I recall. Fellow up in Cochrane was selling an awesome F5 on the classifieds not too long ago. I really liked that mandolin when I got to play it a few times in the past.

    Hi Mike,

I googled it when I got home, I just wanted to find out what others thought.

I believe Jesse Zubot plays a Sawchyn on Kelly Joe Phelps' Slingshot Professionals CD.

To my mind it's one of the best sounding recorded mandolins I've heard.

I have one of his flat-top style mandolas that I bought here used. I once sent him an email with a question about it and he responded right back.

I love the look of his vintage-style oval hole instruments.

I've always been curious how many instruments he is able to turn out, given how many different styles of guitars and mandolins he shows on his site. He's got to have a lengthy waiting list (?)

I have three of Peter Sawchyn's instruments -- an oval-hole A2Z-style with matte blacktop (built like an early Gibson), an F4 style with extended neck in french violin natural finish (similar to the one on his website and one he custom built for Butch B some years ago, also built around the Gibson pattern), and a carved top, oval hole octave mandolin, also in the french violin finish. They're all beautiful instruments -- Peter's workmanship is the best I've seen, and they sound great. He made the A "retro" on spec and I bought on impulse during a visit - no regrets! The other two I ordered and waited about 8 months or so for them. They're all keepers.
    Too many instruments...too little time
