Because of adult children support issues money has been tight. I thought I would have to sit this year out. My wife, God Bless Her!, thought otherwise. She says it's a priority that I go because it does so much good for my mental state and health to get away for the week.

I'm taking 'Vocal' with Dede Wyland this year. Mandojulie, I assume you'll be taking mandolin?

My Camp Bluegrass report from last year is available here.

Have fun. I'm glad your wife was so understanding and encouraged you to go. I may try to attend the Acoustic Music Camp in Arlington in August.

Yes, I'm taking mandolin and fretting over the fact that I signed up for intermediate. I'm intermediate in many ways but still a beginner in a lot of ways. Oh well, they said that you could swap if necessary.

GRW3, I'm glad you're going. Your write up of Camp Bluegrass was what convinced me to go.

    See you there,

Going next year. We are caretakers for the 6 yr old while the daughter is in Iraq. You will like Steve Smith, he is a local guy here in Las Cruces, and he will probably be playing his old wave a style that Bill Bussman made.

I moved from Kansas to Las Cruces, NM in 81. I spent a little time at K State. I was in the Army at Ft. Riley from 78-81. I was there 3 yrs to the day.

    Hey folks,

I'll be at CampBluegrass too. I've heard great things about the Levelland experience so I thought it was time. The way flights worked out, I'm flying into Lubbock on Saturday night and heading to LLand on Sunday. If anyone has a similar travel schedule, let me know and we can get together Saturday night.

    Hi David, Hi Jim,

Jim, I grew up here in Manhappening. I also left in 81 - I joined the Navy - eventually decided that this is where I wanted to be. Sorry you can't make it this year. I don't know if I'll make it next year, I'm in charge of the family reunion which is the same time frame. Besides, this is my first year, I may not like it!

David, I'm driving and planning on being in Dalhart Saturday night so I'm no help. I'll see you Sunday!

    I can't wait.

Last year Steve was playing an Ellis F as I recall. Gerald Jones was teaching guitar but played plenty of tunes on his Gilchrist. Roland White, who's not coming this year, was playing his custom built Gibson.

I visited Manhattan, KS a couple of times. My best friend was in veterinary school there. I came up one Thanksgiving and got there just before the big ice storm. The next morning we went out to go to KC to visit his girlfriend and I barely put the car in gear and slid on the ice all the way across the road. I told him he could drive as soon as he quit laughing hysterically.

I'm with you on needing a vacation. Work has been nuts and week of music is just what I need.

    See ya Sunday.

I just started a blog. I'm not taking a computer but, as I recall, there were computers available for camper use. I'll try to drop some notes into it from there.

Well, so much for that plan... As I said I didn't take my ball and chain so I couldn't do it afterhours. Turns out I just didn't have the time an inclination to find a computer. I did meet and hang out with David and Julie and that was great. I'll have another report in a while... I did keep another journal. I managed to go the week without taking a single picture. Mandojulie took a bunch so I assume she'll post some.

Yeah, kind of dissappointed in the picture of George, David and me - They look great, I had my eyes closed. Must have been napping!

I'll try to figure out how to post it anyhow.

    I miss camp, waaaahhhh!

This 'real world' stuff is a pain after a week of camp. Let me just say that Julie and David are the kind of cool people you would expect to be Cafe dwellers. David saved my in a jam the last night when I lost left brain control and just started off in the wrong key. You just can't help from being upbeat when you spend time with Julie.

I've seen Gerald Jones in this vicinity, though he is only an occassional poster. He has a new Ellis that he was breaking in. I guess it's his 'play-out' mando as his other one is a Gilchrist. He was teaching banjo this year. Well known mandolinist Joe Carr still fights his MS. I thought he was doing a little better this year than last. He did teach the beginning mando class and they did a good job in the student concert.

For anybody waiting for my Camp Bluegrass report for 2009, it will come but right now I am pursuing a discussion of my new Weber Bighorn.
