Default 10 Blues turnarounds in E

    Hi all

I've tabbed out 10 turnarounds in E for the blues mandolinists out there. Most are in closed positions which allow for easy transposing.

This is a bit of a continuation of a lesson I did on YouTube a year ago. Rene's recent turnaround video on YouTube (a very good one I might add!) got me off my butt to tab out some turnarounds in that ubiquitous blues key.

    Enjoy!

THere are pdf and tef files at the link Jim gave. So the tef files will play if you have Tabledit.

    Thank's Jim,
Your a huge help to less gifted fans like myself. You and Rich D. are Dam* fine Blues mandolinist. Any chance you and Rich could do some Blues Duets together. As different as your two styles are, What a mix that would be. We definitely have a lot of inspiration for a blues tune in this 21 century. Thank's again for helping with my turn arounds.

Actually, I have yet to do an official announcement, but I'll be sponsoring a mandolin workshop w/ Rich December 4 and 5th here in Bloomington. I have yet to set it up, but I'm also planning to book a gig for Rich and be his bandleader for the backup band.

Rich is great. Sweet guy and a monster player.

As far as sound files, I'll probably be doing a blues mandolin video on YouTube tomorrow to demo the licks. Don't have the opportunity to do this today.

Thanks Jim for the kind words !

I really like yours too especially No. 6 + 9

a video would be a great addition cause the sound from Tabledit is somewhat strange....
would love to hear these turnarounds on your Kimble.

Thanks for your efford on blues mandolin

Great subject....blues turnarounds....Here's one of my favorite turnarounds. Here shown in E you can also start this from the E note on the 7th fret 2nd string. The very first note is the root so you can transpose to other keys easily.

Jim, please keep us posted on the workshop!! I've been wanting to attend one of Rich's workshops and I'm only about 3 hours away from Bloomington. I would most definitely attend.

    Thanks!

That's a good one Perry. With the passing tone on top, you enter into Jethro Burns territory.

Here is an accompanying video for the turnaround tab. Sorry for the lateness--have been passing sickness back and forth this week in my house.

    FANTASTIC !

Thanks Jim for making the video. My musical knowledge is very limited so just looking at notes doesn´t work for me. I allways need a sound file to hear how it should sound. The Tabledit soundfiles are not really that helpfull once technics like vibrato and bending are involved ( without them it would not be possible to play blues ). So now with the video ( hhmmm the Kimble ) it really sounds like blues.

I will gladly ad these turnarounds to my repertoire.
Thanks again for all what you do for us blues mandolin lovers.

Thumbs up Re: 10 Blues turnarounds in E

Thanks for the demo's, it's like adding spice to a fine batch of gumbo. I really like the string bending on #9. #10 isn't identified on the tab, not a problem but are you doing a wiggling bend when you slide from G to G# on the D string. It sound really good in your example.

I didn't see the contactable on your web site. How do we leave comments or questions there? Thanks again for your help. If my baby doesn't throw me out of the house after she gets the Blue Chip bill I'll try to come up with some transcription donations. I got the thin wallet blues.

This really is a great subject, and I'm hoping to give this thread a strong bump!
Perry, I really appreciate this turnaround, as it uses 'tenor guitar scale friendly' note spacing.
If anyone else has favorite turnarounds that would work on my longer scale, I'd love to see them.
Also, Blues playing on the GDAE tenor guitar has become my primary focus, so if anyone has any resources (octave mandolin, most likely?) they think I should look into, I'd love recommendations.

You go, Ed! It can be done. You just have to get quick at shifting positions. I'm playing on a Gibson archtop (24.75" scale) tuned CGDAEE now and have played a lot on my lovely bride's acoustic (25.5" scale) in the same tuning. Tons of fun, but you wind up doing a lot of your own arranging since no one else does it.
