The "Grateful Dawg" is supposed to be pretty good, haven't seen it myself. I'm waiting for a cheap used copy to turn up on the Mandolin Cafe Classifieds.

I've enjoyed "The Three Pickers" DVD for the picking quality and "down-home" atmosphere. "Alison Krauss and Union Staion - Live" DVD is the best for entertainment and musical prowess; not just Bluegrass, though.

"Grateful Dawg" is excellent. I also really like the Doc Watson, David Grisman, & Jack Lawrence live video/dvd. It has lots of nice mandolin work on it.

I got a nice one called "Gather At The River". It's from about 1993 and centers around IBMA. Got alot of Peter Rowan on mando, and alot from Nashville Bluegrass Band. It's got the clip mentioned above with Chris Thile and others in that youth band. Annnnnnnd it's got California (or is it Kalifornia?) featuring Chris Thile's mando teacher John Moore with Byron Berline on fiddle doing a smokin' version of 'California Traveller' (their spin on Arkansas Traveller). Great one to have.

I just bought a DVD off of eBay called "Legends of Flatpicking"

It is about bluegrass flatpicking (Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Norman Blake) but there is some AWESOME mandolin playering in there like Ricky Skaggs (with Tony Rice OH MAN!) and Sam Bush when he was with the Tony Rice Unit.

This DVD is phenomenal! #I keep watching it over and over. Highly recommended!

I have both of these. The Watson/Grisman/Lawrence DVD is priceless, although the camera work is a bit erratic -- seeing the fingers in instrumental passages would be a good idea on such a specialist DVD. I'm not so keen on Grateful Dawg: there's a lot of great music there, but we only get to hear a few seconds and then it fades into the background and we get yet another interviewee talking over it. Very frustrating.
