Re: Let's hear your BEST musical joke?
Ah! The Philosopher speaks, and he speaks The Truth, writ large.
I shall tell you. friends, why it is I said that, not just generally (albeit true), but specifically. For a long, long time my mother was not supportive of my "career choice," my devotion to music-making. She would have much preferred I choose something more responsible, more respectable, more rewarding, more stable, more impressive - doctor, lawyer, you know. I had a series of day jobs, some which I maintained for years and were actually at least somewhat respectable, but my devotion was to music. It was me, I was it, that was it. Then one day as we were talking, out of the blue she said, "You know, playing music as you do, it must make people happy. That's good." You could have knocked me over with a feather (well, a large feather). She'd found a way to acceptance. I think she only ever made it to one gig, but this was the moment I'd unknowingly longed for for so long. So this joke resonates with me on a personal level - in addition to being funny on its own.
We now return you to our regular programming, already in progress.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. - Dennis Miller
