    Default Ellis A models

Does anyone have any sound clips or video of any of the new Ellis A's. I've searched the web and I've had no luck. I was even having a hard time just finding a review. I've got a severe case of MAS, I can't stop looking at them, my wife caught me again last night looking at my "mandolin porn" as she likes to say. I was going to head up to Smokey Mtn. Guitars to play one, but they sold it.

I purchased mine about 4 months ago online, no regrets! The finest mandolin I've owned. The action perfect (for me anyway) and the workmanship flawless!
    Go for it!

I have been able to play two of them before they were sold and both were fabulous. Worth every dollar.

I've had mine for just over a year (bought it brand new at IBMA 2008), I can honestly say it's completely cured my MAS and I have barely looked at the classifieds and eye candy sections here since (something I used to do on a daily basis!).

I hate to buy something without playing it, so I'll just have to wait and keep looking for now. I'm sure they sound great, they look amazing. How would you describe the neck, more V or more U shaped, deep, slender?

Slight V. The neck on mine feels not too deep and very fast. They all have speed necks IIRC.

What do you have to lose? Most dealers offer a trial period.

Exactly!!! Seriously, these are some of the best bang-for-the-buck mandolins out there. You're getting $10k tone for just shy of five large. Call me an enabler but I say buy one on approval and see what you think!

There's one on Gruhn's inventory list. Is that too far to go to get your hands on one?

Just fast forward past my brothers banjo break and you can hear my Ellis A. It's about 6 months old and I love it. As others have posted, it's the best sounding/playing/looking mando for the $$. And most importantly, they are consistently great. My MAS has been cured and so can yours....
    good luck!

If only I could get my wife to sleep through my attempts at banjo practice...

Great sounding mando and banjo! So far my brother and I are relegated primarily to 3 chords and a cloud of dust (him on guitar, me on mando or banjo), but we're working on it...

The F Deluxe models go for 11.5K, so the A models is a fabuluous deal if you ask me...recession special! I am surprised they even get the pics up before the are sold at the stores.

I had an F deluxe that I bought new a few years ago. It was the very best craftsmanship of any mandolin I have ever played. The tone was crisp, dry, woody, and precise. I played another F Deluxe at Gruhn that had the same tone so in my experience they are consistent. I quit playing bluegrass and didn't want a 12K wall hanger so I sold it. (Sometimes I regret it!)

So, all that being said...buy it! Before I do! If you ever had to sell it you will likely get all or most of your money back. $4800 is not alot of money for a mandolin of this quality.
