You're welcome!
As a retired National Guard First Sergeant with a daughter on active duty at this time I feel really blessed to have been able to serve my Country. Thanks to all who have served and are serving at this time.

Remember this is an international site, over here in Europe we are also celebrating Armistice Day (11/11/1918) especially in the UK, where there is heavy debate over current military affairs as well. Coincidentally we are celebrating 20 years fall of the Berlin Wall -- which, to return to Mando content, makes it possible for us to enjoy those Czech instruments!!
Among well-known mando veterans are Bobby Osborne (remember "Brother in Korea", written by sister Louise? "the people aren't happy unless / they're fighting a battle somewhere") and Jesse McReynolds (Korea, teamed up with Charlie Louvin in the same unit -- two lead singers but I guess they knew how to work it out).
Speaking of Louise, she also wrote New Freedom Bell, which still "stands so high, in the city of Bérlin, that not so long ago, was the city of sin".
(father USN 1942-1945)
I do not think this is the appropriate place for a thread like this. This is an international site, or at least with many different nations represented, and statements like "this great country" automaticly ranks a country before another. No offense to any veterans.....from any country! Let us keep this site free of politics and keep it mando-related.

Whether we call it Veteran's Day or Armistice Day, it is a sobering time to reflect on sacrifices made by servicemen and women of all nations. It has been an honor to serve and a pleasure to travel all over the world and meet servicemen from other nations. I have some great memories of serving above the Arctic Circle with Norwegian soldiers at Evenes, drinking and singing late into the night. I still have Norwegian uniform insignia after trading pieces of my own uniforms. I also remember a fantastic Christmas Eve/Day in Incirlik, Turkey, drinking and playing pool with Brit airmen in a genuine English pub built inside a tent complex. Jim gave an extra thank you to vets playing mando. I would like to thank all those in the Cafe who have helped current servicemen with their mandolin questions. Godspeed to those mando players in harm's way and I pray their mandolins bring comfort to themselves and others while so far from home.

By all means..thank you to all the sons and daughters. God Bless.
IMHO...Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a #### by the clean end.
I'm not offended with anyone thinking that their own country is great.
Keeping this in mind, I'm proud to be a veteran of my country which I also think of as great. I don't read threads if they offend me.

Geesh..everything has to turn into some PC garbage on this board..why is that? This is axactly what I dont frequent this place as often as I used to. Scott..you might as well pin it...its going to get to that point eventually...a simple thank you to the men and women who have served is all it is..get over it.
A thank you is fine, as is a you're welcome. The rest needs to stop. I'll even say please.

I drove my dad (he's 84) in the parade today. Beautiful '58 Chevy Impala Convertible he owns. Had this picture poster size on the passenger side door.
