Interesting thread that started when Christ was a cowboy.
I found out that
- voice training starts with breath "control", which means
- total muscle relaxation (in your breathing system) makes the most out of your singing voice and
- vocal coaching ist allmost like a therapy.
I don´t think that you can just go get a cd etc. and "learn how to sing".
I found out (through receiving singing lessons that are mostly breathing therapy) what I do/did wrong while speaking and singing. With a bag of "tricks" that you learn from a good vocal coach you´ll find out that suddenly your voice is not pitchy, your voice has carrying power without "screaming" etc.
I do think that a good teacher can show you the technique online. The emphasis is on good.
I once participated in a vocal workshop with a very (!) good vocal coach. She had everything down pat when it came to how melody and harmony works. What she did not have down was how breathing and muscle relaxation works so that you can actually sing full throttle without straining your voice. I learn that from a classicaly trained guy (who has other shortcomings...). It´s not a straight path.
