Hello,
For the last couple of years I have been performing with guitarist, Nathan Jarrell. We have been performing under the "unoriginal" and slightly boring name of Duo Acquavella/Jarrell. Alas we are tired of this long, undecriptive name for our duo. We feel that it doesn't fit what we are trying to do as an ensemble and lets face it, doesn't look good on advertisements. Nate and I would like to have a little contest to invite the mandolin community to name our mandolin/guitar duo.
About the duo:
Nate and I met in 1997 when we were just young lads. We both joined a hardcore punk band that went on to sign two record contracts and tour the USA. After that band came to an end we played in other bands together such as Celtic/Irish music, Bluegrass, newgrass.....anything needing a mandolin & guitar. In 2001, I moved to England to pursue a music degree from Trinity College of Music in classical mandolin. Nate, on the other hand, went to SDSU to pursue a degree in jazz guitar. When I moved back to San Diego in 2006, it just felt natural to start playing music together. Duo Acquavella/Jarrell is a unique mandolin & guitar duo that combines my classical training with Nate's jazz experience, providing an exciting sound scape of repertoire. We perform a wide range of music including brazilian choro, jazz, contemporary music, classical and original compositions. Check my track MART on the mp3 page to get an idea of what we are about.
Nate and I looking for a name in the classic mandolin/guitar duo tradition......Duo Capriccioso, Duetto Giocondo, Duo Gervasio, Duo Calace, the Odieum Guitar Duo, the Amadeus Duo...etc.
The Contest:
Please sumbit on this thread your name suggestions for our duo. Entries must be submitted by March 1st. The winner will receive a free copy of my latest CD, "Letters from London".
We will be performing live on a web-based show on March 8th. This might be a good opportunity to introduce the new name.
I look forward to reading some interesting names. Best wishes & good luck.
