Someone posted this link over at thesession.org recently, thought it would be worth reposting over here - lots of great old mp3's of trad stuff:

Wow, this is fantstic Jill! Thanks for the post. Too be honest I thought I'd bookmarked most of the Irish tune sites on the web , but, as is usual in my case, I was wrong. This is a really great addition. Thanks again!
Best,

Thanks for the useful link Jill. Also in the same genre, the site has a page of Cape Breton fiddle tunes.
Bob, did you try a right click on the play icon and "save target as"? Some security settings prevent direct playback.
(for IE8, don't know about other broswers)
Hey Jill, thanks for that link! I meant to just listen to 1 or 2 tunes and spent about 45 minutes there just now.
I also saw some youtube video of you from a link on another thread and really enjoyed it...really nice lift in your playing.

Thanks, Jill, that's wonderful! Made me greedy... :-D
I have a CD (here somewhere...) called, I think 'Past Masters of Irish Dance Music' and I think that a number of the tunes/sets/artists are the same. But I haven't been able to locate the CD here in the house. But....
Here it is on Amazon, with a couple of other very goodns. Same and different... some of the same artists/tunes.

'Past Masters...' is also available on iTunes.

Ted McGraw here in Rochester is North American Archivist for Comhaltas Ceoltoirii Eirann and has an amazing collection of Irish (and Scottish) music recordings in a variety of formats. He's run the Irish Party House radio program here for over 30 years. Here's a link to his website, which contains some audio clips. Ted's also very generous about sharing audio files with collectors and musicians; he's an often-overlooked resource for people interested in the Celtic music genre.

I've always dug through 78s in antique stores hoping to find Michael Coleman, or perhaps even (not known to exist or not) Lloyd Loar. There are some great recordings out there. Some of the more commonly available ones focus on Donegal fiddlers such as Johnny Doherty, Francie & Mickey Byrne, Con Cassidy, etc. Wonderful, wonderful music!
When it comes to old 78s of ITM, it is difficult to better the 4CD set compiled by Ron Kavana a few years ago and released by Proper Records under the name "Farewell To Ireland". It's very cheap (especially if bought through Amazon's Marketplace sellers) and very extensive, including a thick booklet. Prices in the UK from 7 GBP, in the US from $18 including postage.

One thing to note is that the two tracks credited to "Maurice McSweeney’s Stars of Munster" are a hoax -- they were recorded by Alias Ron Kavana with a few added crackles and pops to make them sound like a 78 (good fun, nevertheless).
Detailed track notes are here.

A most excellent site...thanks Jill!
Jill,
Thanks for this link. When your first post appeared I set my download manager to download all songs that night but then promptly forgot about them. Today's holiday had me thinking so at 5AM I burned them to CD before leaving for work. I have been listening in my car and now my office all day. Great music to keep me in the St. Patrick's day mood at work.
