Virtuoso? Wasn't he 4th place in that same competition? http://www.federmandolino.it/file_pd...gnola_2008.pdf
And now jury. At least he is a real mandolin player unlike most of the juries in that competition.

    Well...

Prof. Vincent Beer Demander teaches at the Conservatoire of Marseille (France)
Prof. Mauro Squillante teaches at the Conservatorio of Bari (Italy)
    Both, of course, perform concerts.
And Dr. Artemisio Gavioli, chairman of the FMI, is a mandolin player too.

I hope this information will give you the necessary information about the jury members of the 2010 competition.

    Bye

    Candy:

As Shakespeare aptly put it in one of his sonnets,

Music to hear, why hear'st thou music sadly?
Sweets with sweets war not, joy delights in joy.
Why lovest thou that which thou receivest not gladly,
Or else receivest with pleasure thine annoy?

If the true concord of well-tuned sounds,
By unions married, do offend thine ear,
They do but sweetly chide thee, who confounds
In singleness the parts that thou shouldst bear.

Mark how one string, sweet husband to another,
Strikes each in each by mutual ordering,
Resembling sire and child and happy mother

Who all in one, one pleasing note do sing:
Whose speechless song, being many, seeming one,
Sings this to thee: 'thou single wilt prove none.'

Your presence among us puzzles me...
It is not man that lives but his work. (Ioannis Kapodistrias)

You're making the common mistake that every person that plays the mandolin is a real mandolin player.

    @vkioulaphides why are you puzzled?

Again, lets try to remain civil to one another and the music playing and loving community. Candy, this is a second thread with posts of a trolling nature (please refer to the posting guidelines and if you have any doubts either don't post or ask a moderator). A place to start from is don't say anything you wouldn't say to a person's face in polite company.

As an executive member of the Italian Mandolin Federation I'm quite astonished about this kind of opinion, which clearly defame the jury members and the competition itself.

I ask the administrator(s) of the forum to cancel the posts of "Candy" because criticizing without any real explanation is absolutely not acceptable.

Yesterday I reacted very spontaniously on this thread that Mike started about the Calace concours, because I am really proud that Sebastiaan is in the jury. Of course I am sure that all the members of the jury are capable……..

My enthousiasm is about Sebastiaan and that is simply because I know him, as a teacher and as a musician. My love for the mandolin and mandolin music has grown the last two years in an incredible way, because I was so lucky to meet him and have the opportunity to have lessons at him. His way of playing I really like, it is just fine to listen to..... Concerning interpretation as well as technics, there is so much to learn! Sebastiaan is able to keep the enthousiasm going, the love for the instrument, and the ways in which it can be played. And I find myself making great progress. This is why I reacted so spontaniously.

If people want to hear Sebastiaan, on youtube there are several videos and there is of course his solo CD. And there are the CD’s where he is the soloist with the Dutch mandoline orchestra het Consort. On one of the two he plays the 1st Calace concerto opus 113. I am sure there will be more CD ’s in the future.

For me it is exciting to see Sebastiaan in the jury of the Calace concours.

I don't normally comment on membership matters in public, but the individual in question here is little more than an internet troll of the worse kind. Baiting, insulting and accusing, all while hiding behind anonymity--just what we all love about the internet.

Wonder if I should name the city in Germany from which they posted? Nah.

But now that I know about the competition, good excuse to put a link to it on the Cafe home page, Facebook and Twitter. Maybe even ramp up the publicity a bit more. Thanks, candy.

Don't know what it is with this person, Scott, I have been to Sussigkeiten, Germany and thought that people there were very nice.....

No explanation necessary, Margriet, your enthusiasm is infectious. Thanks again to Mike for getting this information out.
