Mandolins In Commercials

It seems to me the last few years I've been hearing mandolins used in commercials more often. Since I'm "tuned-in" to mandolins, my ears perk up whenever I happen to hear one on the tube - if I haven't muted it during the commercial, that is. I thought it might be fun to share some of these and see how many we can come up with.

I've noticed this too, both TV and radio. The only example I can think of now is a Home Depot radio spot that ran a couple of years ago.

Though not recent, my favorite was always Homer and Jethro doing the ad for Kellogs Corn Flakes (set to the tune of Old Joe Clark). Did I just date myself?

Gee whiz - I don't remember that. Or any mandolin in any media before I owned a mandolin, in 1968. (Didn't grow up in a bluegrass-oriented environment.)

I don't watch too much broadcast TV. It's been oft said, but NPR uses a fair bit of mando content between segments on Morning Edition and All Things Considered. My favorite was the Citibank ad with the older couple (him on mandolin and her on autoharp) where she picks on him at the end for messing up.

Well, now! Hadn't thought of checking commercials from other countries. Darned American provincialism! I'll bet there are tons - er, metric tons - of Italian commercials that use mandolins. Once again, I am impressed with the cleverness and inventiveness of our members.
