BTW, the seller also listed several electric guitars, including a red 60's Supro Res-o-Glass for $950, which seems decently priced as well?

Judging by the seller's pricing approach, and without a pic, I'm gonna assume it's junk. Though that could just be his estimation. He does say make an offer ... Caveat emptor!

I'm still skeptical without having seen a pic. Not a good idea to shell out for a pig in a poke.

I guess I should weigh in with an explanation. I am the "builder" using parts not from a kit, but from a well known builder who will remain anonymous unless he wants to speak up himself. I do like to list things cheap locally for a quick face to face cash sale, but when that doesn't happen I have to resort to taking pictures, answering a lot of questions and packing it up for shipping and stuff, then I want a fair price. I think this mando is worth $900-$1200. My cheap price still stands for you guys I have talked to locally, you know who you are, you just have to come and get it.

Since this mandolin is pictured on the builder's (or, in this case, the kit-maker's) Web site (if you know where to look) I shouldn't think he disavows it. However, I can't imagine what makes you think it's worth more than the builder has ever charged for an instrument he put together himself.

Check the Cafe rules, please. Listing an instrument in the Classifieds and on Craigslist simultaneously is a no-no ... and one of the reasons it's a no-no is to prevent the very kind of price manipulation we are seeing here.
