Has any one recorded the thickness of the tops with the unbraced mandoins?

John Monteleone said that the difference in how the vibrations travel through the top wood is a 10 to 1 ratio. He felt the tone bars evens that ratio out and makes them more equal. He must have read that somewhere if he's using numbers like "10 to 1". I can't imagine someone just making that stuff up.
