"On the other hand, plectrum is a noun, while pick in this context started its life as a verb"
Yeah, but it isn't nearly as much fun to say 'You can plectrum your friends and you can plectrum your nose but you can't plectrum your friend's nose'
I guess if just one of them costs more than dinner out at Red Lobster, then it's a plectrum, otherwise it's a pick to me.
lol -- I guess that would make Blue Chip a plectrum

Definitely. And one wouldn't pick with it, but rather plectrate. (Plectricate? Plectricize? Not sure ... )

Plectrify. Conjugate that!
Yesterday I did not know what plectrify meant. But today, I can do it.

Blue Chip, the transitive verb, as in
"You gonna Blue Chip it?", as in
"Don't Bogart that...!"
Now that I think of it, the term 'distressed' kind of bugs me - I have visions of my mandolin getting more and more distressed every time I play it.
My mandolin is distressed by how badly i play it..
Epilogue: Snooth's original "Annoying Wine Words" article was so popular, they came out with Part 2.
(Personally, I liked the first list better -- esp. Unctuous" -- but I'll bet there are still some entertaining-yet-annoying adjectives for music instruments that we haven't posted here yet.)

How bout "he has a very "thin sounding mandolin". Nick

Ok well none of the above descriptive words bother me but I hate when people tell me 'that is a cute little guitar you play"
Look on the classifieds and you will see a variety of words/phrases that express how great that certain mandolin sounds ! Always makes me wonder why they are selling it !
A term just popped into my mind: "Beatlesque," as in "This mandolin is perfect for Beatlesque applications." Just how do you mean that? Will you be playing "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "This Boy," "I Need You," "Yesterday," "Norwegian Wood," "Tomorrow Never Knows," "Within You Without You," "A Day In The Life," "Blue Jay Way," "It's All Too Much," "I Am The Walrus," "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da," "Good Night," "Piggies," "Come Together," "Helter Skelter," "Something," "Get Back," "Hey Jude," or "Revolution 9?" Bit of a range there - could you be more specific?
