I own a Flatiron and the sticker inside uses both terms, octave mandolin and bouzouki. #Though generally, bouzouki refers to a longer scale. As for a recommendation, my Flatiron 3MB sounds wonderful but it self destructed in the humid Philadelphia summer. #None of my other mandos were affected. #Check out the Trillium octave mando. www.octavemandolin.com # I visited once and Robert Abrahms was very helpful and informative and his instruments are quite nice and still under $2K.

There is a very long thread on this very subject below. A lot of thoughts and ideas were covered here.
