    Good list, my friend.

Bounce Away is indeed terrific. The tunes and playing were all perfect for budding mandolinists to sink their teeth into. I've told this story before: I taped some of the tunes off this LP from the radio when it was first released. One tune was Fiddler's Creek, which I learned off the home-made cassette tape. Well, the tape was faulty and had so deteriorated that I thought the number was in A chord. It actually was in Bb. I saw Herschel at some point and played the tune for him, in A. He said "Alan, that's great, but it's in Bb!" We both laughed.

The IIIrd Tyme Out is with the great Bibey and Baucom. Thanks A Lot has that impossible triplet section.

And the Geiger is so great. Akira was ahead of his time.

Thanks for ID'ing Nick. I met him at IBMA, and caught the Special C late night set in the California Suite. Nick fit right in with them. He was awesome.

I've really enjoyed all the CD that people have suggested over the years, so I'm bumping this to see if folks have new suggestions.

    I'll add the following:

    (1) 3 Mile Stone (Self-Titled)
    (2) Kerman Mandolin Quartet
    (3) Sierra Hull - Daybreak (Seeing her live was a treat)
    (4) Sarah Jarosz - pretty much anything (especially when she plays OM)
    (5) Wake the Dead (Paul Kotapish, mandolin)
    (6) Erik Thompson - Kleptograss

While my list request excludes anything from Chris T (Punch Brothers, etc.), I have to say that without that rule my newer contributions would have to include both Goat Rodeo CDs. I'm going to break the rule one more time and say that Instrumentals by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder is one of my all time favorite CDs.

Not new but also not listed in the last 12 years and I’d hate for it to be missed by anyone: the complete recordings of Dave Apollon, "The Man With The Mandolin". His schtick is great too.

Okay, I'll play . . . keeping in mind that the thread title says 'Favorite' - not 'Best'.

    - Blue Sky Boys (Bill Bolick): Presenting The Blue Sky Boys
(Bill didn't particularly like this album, but I still enjoy it very much.)
    - Homer & Jethro: Playing It Straight
    - Del McCoury Band (Ronnie McCoury): Cold Hard Facts

"Natasha's Waltz" as many have already stated, but I had this on vinyl as "Original Underground Music from the Mysterious South", and it is always on any of my top 10 or favorite lists.
John Reischman's "Walk Along John" - so many cool tunes of which I have learned a bunch, but I have to also give a thumbs up for "Up in the Woods"

the first Modern Mandolin Quartet CD- those Bartok duets!

plus Todd Phillips "Released" ( I have not seen this on CD as of yet)
    Stormy Morning Orchestra

Got no compassion, thinks its a sin
All he does is sit around an play the Mandolin"

Just 3 that come to mind quickly, I would prefer listing my top 30 or 40.

Billy Flynn Chicago Blues Mandolin (and everything recorded by Johnny Young)
Don Stiernberg Straight Ahead (actually any, but especially with Andy Brown on guitar)
I really like Jacob Jolliff's Standards album, but I feel really stupid not mentioning anything by Jethro or Tiny or Michael Lampert

And now for some slightly different recomendaciones…

    1. Raffaele Calace: Duets for Mandolin and Guitar: Bulent Yazici & Ender Bilge
    2. Paradis latin: Julien Martineau
    3. Playing Bach, Mozart & Chopin - EP: Fernando Barroso

    Bonus albums:
    1. Raffaele Calace: 10 Preludes: Raffaele Calace • Gertrud Tröster
    2. J.S. Bach: Violin Sonatas & Partitas: Johann Sebastian Bach • Florian Klaus Rumpf
    3. Third Journey: Mike Marshall • Caterina Lichtenberg

I think that Bach is the German Wizard who wrote music that works on our instrument, but Calace is the Italian King that brought out what is technically possible and most beautiful in our instrument.
Mandolins: Labraid Grand Concert Jazz, Collings MF, Mowry Octave Mandolin
Violins: Stratton Electric Violin, Cheap AF Violin I got off of Facebook Marketplace

When I look beyond those folks I know lots of names, but struggle to know which CDs to pick. I would like to get some recommendations, so please list your favorite CDs by a mandolin player other than the ones listed above.

    Here's my list:

    1. Butch Baldassari, John Reischman & Robin Bullock - Travellers
    2. The Anger/Marshall Band - Brand New Can
    3. Kentucky Colonels - Appalachian Swing! ( I love Roland White's work on this CD) If you don't think this one should be on the list, then please pretend I listed Aubrey Haynie - Doin' My Time

OK, we’ve got a slug and a half of albums named here over the past twelve years and no one has yet compiled ‘em into one comprehensive list. With a super scoop of apprehension I submit my compilation, below. It’s sorted by artist first name or band name. There will be some things omitted, such as those that gave an artist’s name and said, “anything by” or those that simply gave no album (CD) names at all. I also haven’t sorted by year or by genre, et al. nor have I included any critique. There are 170-some albums here. Feel free to copy, edit, enhance or turn this into a full blown database if that’s how you roll. I’m going to bed, now.
