Default Relic'ing a brand new set of tuners for an 80 year old axe

I have rarely been posting anything over here these last few years as my life has been pulling me in another direction. I have, for the last two years, been doing Facebook PhotoEssays of almost all my instrument repair work. Most repairs these days for me is on 1930s Kay Kraft two point guitars, as I can't seem to stop buying them. The PAGE banjo tuners on this one guitar were totally toast since, I would think, the 60s. I bought a set of 5 Star machines from StewMac and here is the essay. Please click the link, read it over and let me know what you think. .....Share this album with anyone by sending them this public link:

Nice work, and excellent photo essay documentation.

    Thanks for that....

Ever try etchant solution instead of the muriatic acid?

Love the color and methods used on the buttons...

I just did some koa button uke tuners, and will try to post pics later today....

Thanks Spruce and Lee. ( Spruce Lee!) I learned how to do the Photoessays from (who else?) Frank Ford's FRETS. Spruce, in this little pulp mill town of 80k, there is only ONE store that sells it, and they had not had a bottle of the stuff in for 6 years. I paid $7.00 Canadian ( that's about $14.27 US these days!) and they had to order it in from Guelph Ontario. Nobody uses it anymore. On my Facebook site, I have almost 25 of the instrument repair essays, and I am getting SO much happiness out of doing them for folks.... Kerry K

As promised, here's a before-and-after shot of some koa-buttoned uke tuners....
Antiqued with etchant solution to fit on an 80-year-old Kamaka pineapple uke...
Not buffed out yet, but you get the idea....

You need to check your exchange rates. Today, November 18, 2010 at 4:30 pm CST $7.00 Canadian is $6.87 USD.

I don't understand Kerry. This is a luthier's forum. There is no room for jokes here.
