Default Hot Rod Lincoln for 5-string

Couldn't see only doing the riff, so here's the whole thing, yours truly talkin' it. Again line out from the Crate head, this time overdriving it slightly. ProTools echo for that rockabilly thrill.

Gee, I wonder if anybody listened? I've been working on this classic for a while, and can dish it out live now. Not that I expect to do so, it was fun to get it on disk instead.

I think it shows the Ryder to advantage, getting a good Tele tone.

I liked it! I'd have looked for a slap instead of echo, though... I'll bet you can find a Deluxe Reverb emulator plugin that would make that direct sound monstrous, too!

    Thanks for listening.

Was indeed a slap delay by ProTools definition, 133 msec. Some EQ, some compression, some reverb. The Crate isn't a pretty sound out of the box but a bit of EQ in front of it for live performance and I'm happy.

    Thanks.

Loved the tune when it was played by Commander Cody, ran across Bill Kirchen's solo version on YouTube. It's rather addictive, and good practice for that country shuffle picking.

I saw Bill Kirchen a few years ago playing semi-solo (just drums and bass behind) on the Commons in Ithaca NY in a free summer evening concert -- he was headed up to the Rongovian Embassy in T-burg for a later show, IIRC. Whole show was unreal... just sitting within a few feet of him in the open air... he did the whole Hot Rod Lincoln shtick (it's on several of his projects) imitating every guitarist who ever played. Even when you know it's coming, it's jaw-dropping to see it done. The man was born with a Telecaster in his hands.

Yeah, I listened, ... used to sit around in my neighbor's den in the basement when I was a youngster listening to the 45 by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen ... am I that old? Nice job !

    Good Job, Tom,
Until Commander Cody did it, my favorite version was Charlie Ryan's. Around the late '80's, met Charlie and his wife hanging around outside a bar near Orlando. They had a Model A with a V-12 and some tapes, LP's, etc to sell and autograph. Some hippie/country group was in the bar taping, so that's where all the crowd interest was. Charlie and his wife and mine had a good visit. His wife did most of the talking though, about all the hot rod songs she had written.

Now I'm fired up to try a 5-string EM!! Thanks,,,I think!!

That 3 piece is his standard set up now " Too Much Fun ". His version on his old " coal burnin' Tele " has to be the gold standard for that song . Kitchen is not only a world class Tele-slinger but a fantastic entertainer.
