My friend, Steve Marx, is the promoter for the Tres Rios Fall Bluegrass Festival in Glen Rose Texas, October 28-30th.
He's having a mandolin contest on Saturday October 30th at 10 a.m. Collings and Charley's Guitar Shop are providing a Collings MF as first prize! It's pretty easy, pay for a $10 advance ticket and show up for the contest. You can call Steve at 817-291-5621 or email bluegrass500@aol.com for information. Steve said today he only had one prepaid entry as of today.

All I need to do is sign up and figure out how to keep everyone else away.

Steve called me today, he got the Collings from Charley's Guitar Shop today. I got to upack it and play it for a while. It is very nice! It is #360 with a slightly radiused fretboard. Steve said he was up to four entries for the contest. I've some serious practicing to do.

So, I've just acquired this exact mandolin. And Doug, it has one of your armrests on it. What a small world. It's been knocked about a bit (with a cleated repair along the back seam) and has had a Collings-engraved James tailpiece added. But, I'm loving it.
