    Default A7-9

Could someone please name the notes in this chord and also suggest some fingering options. It falls between a GM7 and DM7 in a song I am trying to learn.

    Thanks,
    Marcus

Compact and close by would be this version, no root: 6-5-1-0, (C#, G, B flat, E open).

A C# E G Bb ~ (In order) Root, major third, 5th flat 7th, flat 9th. On a mandolin, you can play it 6510, leaving out the root. This fingering is also called a Dim7, but not Adim7. It is the dim7 of any of the other notes in the chord, just not the A. Here's another fingering: 3243. That one leaves out the root also and puts the flat 9th in the bass. That one will probably flow smoothly in your progression. If you need an A in it, 2213 will do it, but it's a little awkward.

    I rather like leaving the E out and going 3 5 4 5 (Bb G C# A).
