Sure, I can learn this by ear, but a chart in (hopefully) notation or tab would be helpful. It can be part of a book. Anybody know of one?

Your problem is, you think you have enough time.
Yep, Skip Kelley, a frequent poster here and excellent luthier, laid out SF in a cool little book he did of not-too-often played tunes.
Check him out.
After you learn the tab, make sure you play it like this:

The Monroe books by Todd Collins....HIGHLY recommended!
He's a real scholar of Big Mon's artistry.

Gear: The Current Cast of Characters
The MCA studio recording (January 4th, 1988) of SF had the awesome triple fiddle combination of Mike Feagan, the then-current BGB fiddler, joined by Bobby Hicks and Buddy Spicher.
It was mostly played as a fiddle tune by the band until February 22, 1989, when the album of the same name won the first Bluegrass Grammy.
Then the tune was expanded in form (going from ABA form to AABA) and became a signature Monroe mandolin piece.

Okay. okay.....
back to the OP question:
Does anyone have the tab for this tune?
I wrote Skip Kelley and he says his book is long out of print....
That book was a winner. Simple readings of several not-overbaked tunes. Some Monroe - Texas Lone Star, Southern Flavor; Aubrey Haynie - Montgomery Bell; Emory Lester - Little France (great little tune), some others.
To Evan's point -- yes, sorry I forgot to mention that the is some mandolin tab for Southern Flavor that was created by Mike Strangeland (as a .tef file) and it is on one of the sites like Mandozine's All Tabs I think.
