Thread: Gibson tg-00?

    Default Gibson tg-00?

I wondered if anyone could help me identify this vintage tenor guitar. I'm guessing its a TG-00, but I'm not sure. Also not sure of the age. It appears to have a small crack in the headstock, but as far as I can tell it sounds great. The tuners won't stay tuned, but I don't know if I want to mess with them. I think the guitar is all original.

Thanks for any help and advice,

    Dave

Check out Intermountain Guitar and Banjo's website. They have a TG-0, a TG-1 and a Kalamazoo KGT-14. All have similarities with your tenor.

I think you are correct Dave here are a few pics of my 1935 Gibson TG-00

These are great sounding guitars -- yours looks to have that course/wide grain spruce top and my experience those are the great sounding ones! Congrats!!

On the tuners. Get a small flat blade screw driver -- hold the plastic knob from turning and then gently tighten the screw -- I seem to remember it is a right hand screw so tighten is clock-wise. Go snug as you have to don't over do it you just want it to hold pitch.

As far as the tuners go, they look peroid but I wonder what the extra holes in the back of the peghead are from. Some one really played the heck out of that tenor! I'll bet it sounds great.

Strange to see scratches on both sides of the strings -- I agree really pounded on it. Someone fitted other tuners at one time I guess. Those Gibson TG-00's and TG-1's really did have a loud voice for being a fairly small guitar box. What happened to the OP? Asked a question and disappeared for a week!

Hate to derail the discussion, but since it's been 10 days since the OP has surfaced, I'd like to say that's a beautiful TG-00 Bernie. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Yes it is in amazing shape -- I thank the previous owners
...and feel lucky to have it. Hardly play it in the winter -- it spends much of the cold/dry months in the case with an humidifier.
