I would like to say I miss this stuff, but I'd be lying. If I may quote Jesse Winchester out of context, memory good enough for me. I have a fold-down futon couch ... and going to a jam tomorrow mid-day ...

I am in the middle of Missouri, just stopped snowing, 2 feet, drifts up to my waist, my dog says it sucks. My Triggs mando is stranded in St Louis with UPS, Interstate is closed. Need another brew.

Before they close the airports? Without exaggeration it would be a major undertaking to open the front door! There's a couple of feet of the fluffy white stuff out there that wasn't there when I went to bed!
Glad that today's my day off from work!
Charlie - kids are tougher than you'd think, nor as lean as you'd like. Best bet is stewed, lots of onions and root vegetables - turnips, parsnips, taters, and carrots. Might have to skim the fat twice.[/QUOTE]
Sounds like good advice, thanks.
Going to have to head out my garage to dig out my front door - the screen door has 4 feet of snow jamming it shut.
That said, no reason to do it while the 30+ mph wind is going to put it right back - gotta wait until the afternoon.
I see mandolin in my future, once my wife and daughter are awake. I'm more excited for that than the coffee that's brewing.
In Philly we only got some icy rain. How disappointing!

Wow you all are having all of the fun..all we got is rain in Maryland.
Just in case - y'all know where to look for advice.

As of now, I think we got about 14" but the drifting is amazing. Did shovel out enough so the beagle could go under the deck.... first much baying, then silence. I get coveralls in the basement and hear him. So I open the basement door, under the deck. He has a ferule cat trapped. Cat bolts, beagle comes in, quite proud of himself. Might as well go blow some snow...........

Three inchs of snow in Stratford ON, disapointing
In west central Ohio yesterday - lots of ice and high winds. Today - snow and high winds.

For what it's worth... There are thousands of trained volunteers who take proper measurements of snowfall that can allay lot's of media hype (a 4 foot drift is just that---a drift...) Look at the CoCoRaHS site.
Mando content? Eh. One of them is bound to be a mandolin player... ?

The winds here in M'waukee have been high enough that I don't have a clue how much snow we actually received. Part of my driveway is scrubbed down to the pavement. The part by the garage is buried under three feet. Front porch and front of house is so far under that all you can see is the top of the railing on the (elevated) porch. Clearing out the end of the driveway at the street will be a challenge, particularly since I know that as soon as I finish it, the plow will come by and put a three or four foot wall up for me to clear. Still, I brought stuff home from the office to work on, I'm on my second cup of cappuccino, and at least one mando break is coming before I even attempt to clear snow.

Hoping everybody fared well -- had to chip 1/8 inch of ice off my car this morning and the driveway was much thicker, but managed to make it in to work -- and then discovered I'd forgotten my mandolin! Ah, well. It's waiting for me at home, where I hope I still have power ...

wonder how the guys in australia are doing. they have a monster storm heading in.

Storm turned left, went north of us, left us with maybe six inches with a bunch of rain on top. Most of the area schools closed in anticipation of a major storm, but it was pretty underwhelming. Good luck to all who got "blizzarded," and take it easy cleaning up afterwards; a former co-worker who lived in my neighborhood, 55 years old, a camper and kayaker, not overweight and with no "prior history," went out to shovel his driveway in December. Three days later I was at his visiting hours commiserating with his wife after his fatal heart attack. Strenuous labor combined with below-freezing air temps can be really rough on the body.

Woo hoo, 11 inches of snow and counting. Dogs required a shoveled out spot this morning. Warm place by the fireside, mando, and the satellite 'net is still functioning. Beer and chili tonight, and home made bread. Life is good.
I'm in the middle of all of this, have a ton of time on my hands, but I feel like **** with a respiratory illness that has me on my butt. I was working on Over the Waterfall. All I can do at this point is spend mindless time in front of the TV and cough my brains out.
What a bummer..........

So apparently the storm stayed a bit further north than predicted. We didn't feel any effects here. Sending along a couple of cheery thoughts ...
