Which version do most of you play and why?

I have been working on #1 for along time and still strugle with it. In the 2nd part, the work on the E string just doesnt seem to flow for me no matter how much I practice it. ##2 seems easier except for the triplet in the 4th measure. #Cant figure that out yet.

why dont you try learning the version on http://www.cpmusic.com/tradmus.html . thats a real nice version, and they have a sound clip so you know how to play it also.

There's a Thile tab floating around somewhere, he does a nice ascending pattern over the Em-G-A-D section, sounds like a dang hammered dulcimer.
excellant resources! Now I need to work on my standard notation reading. When I played trumpet about 14 years ago I was able to sight read. Now I have to sit and figure it out note by note. I am hoping it will come back to me.

I was wondering about the origin of St Anne's so I looked in the fiddler's companion. Naturally I typed in St. Anne's Reel in the search box but had no luck finding the tune that way. I tried "Anne", "St" and so on. Since I thought probably the tune was French Canadian I finally tried "Reel de" and got lucky because an alternative title is Reel de la Baie Ste. Anne. Weird. I can't figure out why St. Anne's Reel didn't work. At any rate Fiddler's Companion is an excellent resource for looking up stuff like this. It gives a version of the tune there in ABC. For a different version which is pretty challenging look up the tune in Ken Perlman's collection of Prince Edward Island tunes.

I'm working a version that is roughly like that in Pearlman's book, as he collected it nearby. I like it because how the local tradition adapted it to suit the local dancing style . . . a little more syncopated and a little less "typical" melody-wise. This tune is like an anthem around here . . .

I learned it from the Tabledit files on co-mando. Looks similar to the above, but has a little cross-picking in it too...

It sounds strange you didn't find it by searching on St Anne's reel, Steve!!? (interesting to know the other title, though) It is such a famous tune!
I play the first version but with some slight changes and additions, as Bluegrass Etc plays it. I'm also trying to learn the version Dubliners play in the Ballad of Saint Anne's reel.
