    Question An acoustic guitar section?

Given that there are many of us who play guitar as well as various members of the mandolin family, i'm curious as to the interest in asking Scott to include an acoustic guitar section down towards the bottom where the Octaves, Zouks, Citterns, Tenors and Electrics live.

As a guitar player i've frequented guitar forums ... but with one exception ... i haven't found a site as well organized and run as the Cafe ... nor as full of talented and thoughtful (usually) forumites. (And that site seems to be withering away.) It just seems a natural extension to me.

I have NO idea of the work involved.

And i have absolutely no desire to screw up perfection .... but ... it just seems like a good idea to me. Any others?

Being a recovering guitar player who often gets bitten by the flat picking bug I'd be all for it. But in reality a guitar section would probably muddy the waters too much. I find the Collings guitar forum to be useful. Have you tried that one?

    Perry,

I'm curious as to how you think it would "muddy the waters." That's not a challenge ... just a question ... because as i said in my post .. i'm not interested in screwing up what i see as perfection.

Just as there are areas of the forum where i have never wandered ... an ag section would be an item unto itself and easily avoidable by those not interested.

I have been to the Collings forum. I just don't see the quality/qualities that i see here.

I think one of the reasons the Cafe is so well run and organized is because it is dedicated to a family of instruments. In other fora I frequent where they have drifted from their original intent, the focus and quality has invariably suffered.

The Mandolin Cafe is the best run and most informative music website that I know of, including an acoustic guitar section, although an interesting idea , would invite also sections for Fiddle, Banjo , Bass and other acoustic instruments.
This might be a huge task , beyond the present task of running the Mandolin Cafe and the name Mandolin Cafe would no longer be applicable.

Eventually non-mandolin players will brought to the site through search engine hits. That may be a bad thing for a mandolin based site.

As I said above I'm all for it but it may not be the best thing for the Mandolin Cafe.

I like that this site does one thing well, it serves the mandolin family of instruments.

While I understand, and agree to a point - I'm more of the `leave well enough alone' philosophy, given how well run this board is currently. Yes, that quality makes me wish there was a forum for all my interests ... there aren't many places this fast, reliable, or as great of a community.

Either way, Scott will make a wise decision ... he got us here, obviously the product of a lot of thought and work.

I have no doubt that Scott and the gang could set up and run a great forum for growing shasta daisy seeds or anything else they had a passion for. I am thankful they picked mandolins.

I do think part of the trick is keeping the focus narrow. I noticed some boards out there have misc. catch all forums areas that are not on topic, where one can talk about anything. What a headache to moderate or police.

While there's no guitars, there are tenor guitars, and while we all love things tuned in fifths, there is no fiddle area, so no line is perfect. But as Mason said to Dixon, "we have to draw a line somewhere."

Besides, do we really want those people here?
