Inside compartment: picks, tuner, strap, cloth, and dog hair
Outside pocket: sheet music/music books, more dog hair, snacks, and sometimes a sandwich

    Hi Folks,

I carry the usual picks and things, but what I really wanted to mention is one important item I carry in plain sight within the case. I have in my case, my business card with a note offering an ample reward if the instrument is returned (in case I a lose it somewhere).

Let's hope it is never needed.

    Best wishes,

    Bob

The wierdest thing I have found in my own mandolin case is a ticket from the Texas State Fair. Nowadays I don't keep anything in the mandolin case but a mandolin. Everything else is in an over-the-shoulder gig bag. The bag goes with me no matter which mandolin I pick up.

I seem to remermber yakking about this. Ahh here it is.

    I normally carry:

    Nail Clipper
    Spare set of strings
Bacon Gumballs Tin with variety of picks, including some cheap ones to lend
Small Hemostat and Wire Clipper for string changes
TSA printout to allow me through airport security
    After Bob's suggestion, contact info

    Currently, but not normally:
    Turbo Tech tuner pedal
    3' 1/4" chord

Had to tune at an echo-ey jam tonight and just wanted it easy and accurate - thus a plug-in tuner. Worked like a charm.

Bobby Clark conducted a survey just like this one for a website some years ago, was interesting to read what the stars carried around.

The usual: An old pastille tin with a selection of pick, a few sets of J-75s plus single E/A/D strings, string nippers, nail clippers, string winder, clip-on tuner (with some spare batteries), cloth for wiping down the instrument and strings, photos of the family, tune lists, a Damp-It humidifier, and a Shubb radiused banjo capo--just in case!

The not-so-usual: A selection of trumps (jews harps) in a variety of keys.

A four leaf clover, a rabbit's foot, assorted Druidic Charms and Three Holy Rocks conferred onto me by a Shawnee Shaman.
Unfortunately, none of these things seem to work, so I also carry two earplugs for each person who will be within earshot of wherever I'll next be playing.
