Listening to Earl's closing song on The Bluegrass Celebration DVD he plays what Skaggs called "Lonesome Rueben". But it sure sounds like the old standard "Train 45" to me.
Am I missing something?

You're absolutely correct! - Scruggs: "Rueben"/"Lonesome Rueben" - Jimmy Martin & various others...: "Train 45" - Identical tune(with a few "twists" here and there). AND possibly..., "You Could hear the Whistle Blow a 'hundred Miles(words & a slower tempo!) - Regards, Moose.
Rueben is in the key of D (D tuning on the banjo) and Train 45 is in B if the singer can get that high-I mean sing that high.
Keep it acoustic.
my son's name is reuben, so i'd love to learn this tune. tab?
