I cannot stress this highly enough. If you find one that speaks to you, even if you think it's overpriced, make your best deal, then BUY IT. Imagine how crestfallen you'd be if you found another for a bit less, only to find out it doesn't inspire. Only have to do that a couple times to eliminate any cost savings.

    Elderly Instruments
    FolkMusic.Com
    The Music Emporium

    Almost all have been mentioned.
So is this list still accurate? I saw where Mandolin Brothers is online only now.

Mandolin Bros. is an online operation and pretty much has been since Stan Jay passed away. I know nothing of the new operation. Janet Davis Music went out of business years ago. I'm not sure Folk Music.Com is still around, we haven't heard from him in quite a while. Elderly and the Mandolin Store are still in business and doing well. The Music Emporium is still out there. There's also Carter's in Nashville.

We also have Morgan Music, the Denver Folklore Center, Lowell Vintage, and Gryphon as well.

By the way, that original list was from 2011. Things change over the years.

Mike, would you know offhand which of these is closest to Dallas Texas? If not, I'll figure it out.

Fiddlers Green (Lockhart) is probably the closest store to Dallas with a sizeable inventory

You may be thinking of The Mandolin Brothers as being online only? The Mandolin Store was located in Surprise, AZ and relocated to north Nashville last year. The have a brick and mortar store as well as online. Two others would be Carter's Guitars (looking on like may have the largest selection) and The Music Emporium.

Please just buy the Pava oval at The Mandolin Store so I can stop lusting after it. Thank you.

I was writing that while waiting in line for a vaccination. I've corrected it. Yes, I meant Mandolin Bros. I know Dennis is still in business.

Sherry, it’s not close to Dallas, but if you can get to Nashville, the mando world is your oyster...or something like that. Carter’s, Gruhn’s, TMS, Cotten Music, Artisan Guitars, and I’m sure there are others. I know for a fact you can spend the better part of a day in Carter’s, Gruhn’s, and Artisan (well, at least pre-Rona), cuz that’s what I did the Saturday I was in town. Awesome day!

Fiddler’s Green was also cool to deal with when I bought my Rigel from them, and, much closer...

I'm guilty of reviving this thread. I've read too many comments chastising those who didn't do their research as to previous threads first.

Chuck, my husband, who doesn't see the need for a second mando, or even an upgrade, has actually agreed to a road trip to Nashville! I have checked out Fiddler's Green, but it seems there are only 2 oval hole As there right now.

Just an observation. I usually window shop at many of the online stores mentioned in this thread and there seems to be less new mandolins in the system in general then there was say 6 months ago. I could be wrong, but in seems that way to me online anyway.

Sounds like FUN! I love road trips, and with mandolins as the goal of the trip, what could be better!

Bernunzio has a decent inventory, though probably not in the league of the Mandolin Store, Gruhn, Carter Vintage, or Elderly.

Enough to keep a local boy tempted, anyway.

I think a bit of both. Largest selection, was the criteria.

And as there are a lot more people playing and learning to play these days, the inventories in shops has been a bit scarce.

The Mandolin Store can sometimes have more copies of one single model of one Eastman model than other stores have in their entire collective mandolin inventory. If that's what's important... there you go.

I was surprised at the selection at Dusty Strings in Seattle had before Christmas. My niece has started playing and lives just down the street from them. We went over the inventory they had on-line before she made an appointment and it was quite a selection. They even had a New Mad carbon fiber A5!

I’ve been eyeing the Cohen. Priced very fairly too.
