Default Strings for National RM-1 mando.

This has probably been discussed, but since I just picked up a National RM-1 I hope I can benefit from others experience. I bought it used and it came with what is a round-wound bronze or phos/bronze. It sounds just a little harsh or brassy to me. I like the fundamental tone of the reso, but would like to warm it up a smidgen. Whatcha think?

A friend of mine swears by Thomastik Infelds for his RM-1. I have played it, and I think he's right.

When I picked up my National I tried a couple of different types of strings before settling in on the Jazz Mando JM-11s. They take just a little of the edge off the resonator sound. I find they have the sound that works for me playing Old Time, Rags and Blues and feel great.

I know what you mean. I play my RM-1 with the original John Pearse strings, and to warm it up I use a Red Bear pick. Really makes a wonderful sound.
