AgreedThat's why she's so cool!
I heard this too.Actually, I do know, now that I reflect: she told someone that she tunes to an open chord, then just barres with one finger, as if it were a Dobro.

No one can deny that Dolly has some really big hits. Did I say big hits? She's got gigantic hits! I tear up everytime I hear the Love you song thinking about how she wrote that just for Porter. I grew up with Dolly on TV long before she got her big hits and loved her then. When she decided to add some real bluegrass music with those Grasscals I was hooked. Love going to Dollywood to see her museum. Sometimes artists like Dolly are just bigger than life. When she steps out on that stage you know something good is going to happen.
When I was at Dollywood they featured a wonderful "all girl" bluegrass band....I wonder why Dolly never used them on any of her bluegrass recordings...OR maybe she did, I haven`t heard all of her recordings thats for sure....
She seems to keep a bluegrass band at Dollywood. I don't remember the all girl band but I do remember when she had a Bluegrass band headed up by Paul Brewster before he went with Skaggs. He had just left the Osbornes and landed a full time job in Dollywood. Paul is from the Knoxville area having been lead singer in the Knoxville Grass band before going to the Osbornes.
One of my favourite bits from the DVD "Bluegrass Journey",is at the IBMA awards ceremony section when Marty Stuart muffs his lines & says 'Blueass' band instead of Bluegrass band & then says "what colour dress did Dolly have on ?".Of course Dolly walks onto the stage wearing a blue dress.Marty also mentions 'one of the biggest Bluegrass ensembles etc.." & Dolly says "is that what they're callin' them now ?" - she's a classy lady for sure & one heck of a sense of humour,
