Makes me want to play that ole fiddle tune, Satan's Reel...
I loved the book! Just wished it was longer...
SPOILER ALERT (I guess): I read it and watched the recent Charlie Louvin documentary. Interesting story if you don't know the details. Ira was a haunted man, and Charlie comes across as a straight arrow. Not really the stuff of Hollywood hits - too one sided. THat said, really surprising that they struggled financially as much s they did. For how much I hear current talent talking about their influence, it was really hand to mouth for them. The financial structure of the early country and hillbilly/bluegrass industry really did not take care of the performers. Song writers did better. The Louvins, who were encouraged to do Gospel, really got the short end. On the mando specific front, amazing the Ira was able to reconstruct his axe after smashing it for the umpteenth time! Thank god for electric tuners!
Daily joy - morning noon and night:

Just finished this one; easy read, interesting and fun. Another reason to keep in touch with the Mandolin Cafe.
Yeah, this was a great read. I highly recommend it.
Let's all go back to 78 rpm!
Noting today is the anniversary of this book, one of the few so good we read it twice. Brilliant, a must read in our opinion.

Good read, I read it last summer. Pete Townsend has nothing on Ira Louvin in the onstage smash department.

I've been playing/singing There's a Higher Power lately. Great fun!
Being right is overrated. Doing right is what matters.

I remember one conversation with Bill Bolick (Blue Sky Boys) where he told me that he and Charlie Louvin used to commiserate on working with their brothers . . . the problems were MUCH different, but both insisted that their siblings were wasting enormous talents.
Wow. If you have Prime, it’s free in Kindle format. It’s in my Kindle reader now!

Just reading the comments on Amazon is entertaining. I guess I need to get the book.

Yes a great book. Highly recommended. Another great book along the same line (musicians on the road etc.) but by a blues musician is this one:
The World Don't Owe Me Nothing - Honeyboy Edwards
By the way, for other Lovin Bros. fans, this is probably the best deal you'll ever see for their music.
