I received Mandolin Blues (Testament Records) for Christmas. It contains work by Johnny Young (7 tunes), Yank Rachell (5), Carl Martin (2), Ted Bogan (1) and Willie Hatcher (3).

I would highly recommend it for mandolin blues enjoyment or as a mandolin blues learning tool. Each tune is heard with at most two other instruments (and voice) so that the mandolin can always be heard clearly and alalyzed for learning tremolo, chording, and other techniques. For those new to blues mandolin it is a treasure of blues techniques and style.

Another interesting mandolin-blues-learning item is the video "Louie Bluie" a documentary about Howard Armstrong. There are several segments with him,Yank Rachell and Ted Bogan playing. It's a very entertaining video. I don't know if it's out on DVD. If it is, I'll buy a copy.

one of the nice things about this cd is that all of the players have quite different styles and attacks, really interesting to follow along.
