Thread: Electric tenor just strung up!

Default Electric tenor just strung up!

So in my shop I waste little to no wood. What is too small for instruments is turned into cutting boards and toys, and I try and save the shavings for the horse stalls. Or a "Junkyard Joe" instrument! Here is a video of a tenor I had been picking at in between glue ups, and a "Junkyard Joe" mandolin I made for somebody. I've showed my dog and girlfriend but they don't seem too impressed so I thought I'd put it up here.

I like the hole where the scroll would be on the mandolin . looks good and functional too

He wanted a "tear drop" sort of soundhole. And I chambered it out to try and lighten the body up. Maybe I should have done the Steve Vai Jem handle instead

    Great stuff Joe!
Hats off on the 'no waste' philosophy, and that tenor sounds great.
Oh, and I bet if you used some bacon grease to lube the fretboards your dog would be singin' a different tune!

Looks and sounds great, good work! The mandolin is beautiful as well, perfect balance of quirkiness and classic.

That sounds great! I've been wanting to build a solid body tenor for a while. Do you mind if ask a few questions about yours?
