Default Nashville made Flatiron Performer A

Can anyone tell me when this was made? It is a Nashville Flatiron A with serial # 10524010. Supposedly in EC for $1100.00. Is that a good price for this? I would consider moving to this one and selling the brand new J. Bovier....

So, after doing a little looking, this was made on 5-24-2001, first one made that day. Is this correct?

Edited: Removed my first post saying it was high. This is a performer. The one I was talking about was a Festival A (marked Performer series). I'll pass on if it's a good price.

It is described as in EC with original HSC. From the pics, it looks barely played....

Not sure on the date, but I've always been a big fan of Flatirons, both Montana and Nashville made. Great tone and workmanship. I don't think you could go wrong with one.

I don't know if it looked that good when it was new. That thing looks unplayed.

So Mike, think I should jump on it? I was told that there was a tiny bit of fret wear in the first position on the A and E strings but had plenty of life left.

Comes with the OHSC and a 48 hr approval period. Think I'm going to do it. I know this is a bit more than I originally wanted to spend, but hey....... so was the Taylor. The JB is 'nice', but not quite the tone I want. Plus, this one should, at least, not depreciate. If it doesn't speak to me, well all I'm out is the shipping.

I've not seen or heard another Performer A to compare to, but I'd say that sounds like a fair price. Maybe even better than fair considering the condition. I play a Nashville made Flatiron Festival made in '01 that I really like. Good luck on the purchase and let us know what you think of it.

Price is reasonable. At or perhaps slightly below current market value. Comparable to a A5G. Construction done slightly after the beginning of a modern "Golden era" of mandolin building at Gibson. I also once owned a Flatiron Festival F and it was a very good instrument. Whip it like a rented mule.

I was going to mention that it was basically an A5G as well and this is a little less than you'd pay for one of those. I don't see it as a bad deal unless there are some other unforeseen problems. It looks good to me.

I think moving to the Flatiron from a J Bovier is a big step up soundwise. With the condition this instrument is in, I'd be tempted at that price myself.

It's a good mandolin, I played one for 10 years before getting an F style. Sold mine for 1K so you got it for a good price.

Let us know how it sounds, please. It may be a closet instrument. I recently played a few new Gibsons at a retail place and was struck at the "newness" of them. I could hear that they would be excellent instruments once played in but they were very tight in comparison to my daily player. Your new Flatiron may need some play time to get right.

From talking with the dealer, the previous owner traded this for a Collins MT2. The dealer said it was a gem to play. Of course, you wouldn't expect a salesman to say it suked......

Got the Flatiron yesterday. All I can say is wow...... What a difference. The tone is there. Plays very nice. It came with what I believe to be some old J74's. I just finished re-stringing it with the JazzMando's. Good grief what a pita that is..... I could've re-strung my guitar 3 times in the time it took me..... But, while I was at it, I oiled the machines, checked all the screws, blah, blah..... Anyway, I really like this one. The neck profile is very similar to the JB, a bit more of a V but not bad. It seems to fit my hand nicely. On the fence about the JM11's at the moment. I'm sure I will be trying different strings to find "the" ones.
