I'm sure everyone is familiar with this case, but here's the pic as a "refresher"...

Is there anyone (commercial or custom) making a replica of this case?

You could ask Nick at The Leatherhead to make you one. I'm sure he could do it again, but it would be pricey...

this is the case the BGBoys gave Monroe on his BD on Sept 11, 1982. It is a Paganoni Loar style case that was taken to a professional leather guy (Nick Boone in KY I think)that covered it in tan natural leather and did the tool work on it. I guess what I am saying is find you a Pag Loar case (about $750 to $1000) and have a pro leather guy cover it and tool it by that photo (another $300 to $500) and I'd say you got one. Personally I like the Gibson F5 brown tolex case with hot pink interior that Tut Taylor hand painted the top cover and gave to Monroe in 1963. The 1982 Pag case is still with the Loar mandolin in the CMHF. There were two Tut Taylor cases and one was in the Bean Blossom musuem. The other one is in the North Carolina Bluegrass Museum.

The Doyle Lawson Signiture mandolin comes with a leather case. Maybe Gibson would see fit to sell you one. Here's a pic that I stole from Facebook posted by Larry N. Click image for larger version.

Maybe heavy, maybe square & unfashionable, but without a doubt in my mind - totally the 'classiest' case you could get. As long as a good leather case is well cared for, usually the older they get,the better they look. That's why i still think that the TKL 'leatherette' covered cases look very smart, but a 'real' leather case - i wish !!!,

DANG....Years ago I bought a usd Gibson F-12 and it came with a leather case, I never gave a thought that one day it might be worth so much and when I sold the mandolin I let the case go with it, just my luck and thats the way it goes sometimes....

I agree with the comments above........ $grand easy for a leather case of that quality. I had an all leather medical bag made over a decade ago......a wee bit larger than the more traditional style of medical bags one might see on the old medical shows on t.v. & it was $300-$400 back then if I recall correctly........I imagine in today's market a larger project like a mandolin case with the quality "innerds" that would be needed would be a pricey purchase.

"... the North Carolina Bluegrass Museum. "

    Where is this museum?

I never heard there were 2 of the Tut Taylor cases.
(I got to hold one of those once.)

Cedar Creek has a nice Loar style case with leather covering. They are available in black and a nice tan leather. Beautiful case, but they are quite expensive.

I had a look at the Cedar Creek website & it's 'call for price' on the leather cases. I do wish stores wouldn't do that. The price is the price !. Is it secret, don't they want to tell us ???. What's that all about !,

And the same with ads which show no price. Saw a few in the past few days. I immediately skip those.

when no price is posted it's a nice way of saying they know it's way overpriced and they are embaresed to show it. I hate ads in newspapers for cars and houses with no price. Why waste my time and yours for me to have to call for the price. Throw the price out there and if I'm really interested I'll call you.

From J.Albert - "...if you have to ask the price....." - 'you can't afford it'. Why should i need to ask ?. If somebody wishes to sell me an item tell me the price !!. If you want to keep the price secret, keep the item as well.
I simply can't be bothered with sellers like that. I've never bought from one & never will. If something cost $10.0 tell me,if it costs a $1,000,000 - mmmmmm, maybe not !!,

I believe they start around $800... depending on exactly which 'options' you choose. Seems rather a lot for a case that is fundamentally not much different from a regular TKL.
