    Default Mandocaster Case

    Just FYI... (and NFI)

    The Guitar Center in Totowa, NJ, has an apparently NOS case for a Fender Mandocaster in their "used & clearance" area, for just under $43.

    It's rectangular in black nylon-covered hard foam w/ full zipper plus a latch, a black plush interior, and a gold (silk-screen?) "Fender" logo on the outside. Except for very slight dust or fading along the handle-side edge, it appears to be unused & in original condition.

    They have it marked as a "Fender F-style" case, but the interior recess is clearly cut for a Mandocaster.

    Just thought that somebody here might want to know about it!

    While we're on the topic, does anyone have a recommendation for the smallest gig bag that a SAGA tele-style fits in? I've tried my cold tennis racquet bag and it's not a good fit.
    1918 Gibson A, "Lillian";
    1940s (?) Kay A style f hole - currently down for a refret and fretboard re-profile, my first attempts (with guidance) at lutherie.
    1981 Washburn M7SN (2 point);
    2011 Eastman 504, "Belle";
    2012 Lafferty mahogany octave mandolin;
    2012 Emando (Saga), "Hank"

    I have one of those cases, they're very nice, maybe I'll scoop up this one as well (cuz I have more mandocasters than I'm willing to admit to ), but actually, they're cut deeper than they should be -- I've had to put a piece of foam under the instrument to make it sit right in the case.

    The one I got right after the FM61 was bought, is wooden,
    has a zipper panel for sheet music on top of the lid.
    + the latch and zipper around the instrument compartment..
    was like $99 , retail, then..

    Did it look like this?

    That's a Mandocaster case (model MC510). There's another case with the silhouette of bass and treble horns cut into the padding, but that one's actually for the FM62SCE and doesn't fit a Mandocaster.

    I don't have my case with me at the moment, so I can't post a photo, but no, Martin, mine doesn't look like that -- mine's cut out pretty much exactly for a mandocaster, just too deep.
    (Actually, I use it to store/transport a Steve Ryder tele model.)

    It's very much like a rectangular violin case, with a good-sized zipper pocket on the top, very much as Ed and Mr Mandroid described it -- the latch covers the zipper that goes around it.

    Not specifically. The one at GC seems more in line w/ Jim B's description, with the body pocket cut out to fit what looks like (at least to me!) the typical Mandocaster bass & treble horns. Can't comment on depth, not having one around to try out.

    Pretty sure that the accessory pocket is set cross-wise under the neck (the neck in place would stop the cover from opening) and the instrument sits straight down the centerline of the case, not diagonally as is sometimes seen.

    Hope this helps!
