Default New web article: "I didn't Have Time To Practice This Week"

I just posted a new article to my website: www.chipbooth.com

"I didn't Have Time To Practice This Week"
Techniques for continuing your musical education when life gets in the way.

The article includes some practice tips for things you can do to study or train your musical skills even when you are too busy to actually play an instrument. I write these articles for my music students and to hopefully create more interest in my local teaching, but I though some Cafe readers might find it useful as well.

In the article I mentioned rhythm exercises I practice both on and off an instrument. I have updated the page with written and recorded examples of these exercises.

Excellent article. Sometime I am doing such critical listening in the car that I miss the turn to where I am going. Maybe that's a bad thing?

    Thanks, Chip.

I went on a little further and read "Why Playing Music is Like Time Travel". Excellent food for thought!

"When I think of music I almost always create some mental picture."

Frank Zappa would often start composing by drawing a picture, not representing the story of the song, but with various areas representing the flow. thickness of an object, its color, etc represented some motif in the music.
