Default More tenor guitar string questions

Earlier this week I took possession of a 1933 Epi tenor guitar. I want to tune it GDAE hopefully using flatwounds if possible. T-I has an assortment of phosphour flatwounds and roundwounds for guitars. First off, will the combination of these sound weird? And secondly has anyone tried combinations or for that matter these strings at all. There doesn't seem to be much conversation about them. I'm thinking 12-18-30-41.

Default Re: More tenor guitar string questions

I use 42 on my G-string (~23" scale), and the tension (less than 20#) is about as loosie-goosie as I'd let it be.
I may try a 44 on my next string change, but I do like the sound of the 42.
Those other gauges all look right on target.
Let us know what you decide and how it works out.
