This past weekend I had the privilege of visiting Bill Monroe's birthplace at Jerusalem Ridge in Kentucky. I thought to share some of my photos for those who have never been there.

Wow ! - Even more pics. If i'd known how close to Jerusalem Ridge i was when i visited Owensboro back in '92,i'd have gone there.I don't think Bill's home place was renovated then, but it was 'the' place to go,

Ivan,
Yeah, it was a nice drive in the autumn colors going out there. They've done such a nice job fixing the place up, especially when you see the film of Bill walking around the Old Home when it looked like the Big Bad Wolf could've blown it over ... Here's some more pictures that I took.
In the DVD 'High Lonesome',there's a small part that shows Bill Monroe walking round his old, derelict homeplace.I wonder what his thoughts were then & i wonder what they'd be if he could see it's restoration now. Bill Monroe passed away in 1996 But the Old Home Place wasn't renovated until 2001. I'm sure he'd have appreciated what folks had done,

They have done a wonderful thing there.
It is good to see it so well cared for at last.

Now I know what Bill was singing about, and the images of the Old Home are forever etched in my mind. I only regret that I didn't walk the trails of Jerusalem Ridge, but it was after 4pm and it's a 9 hour drive back to Milwaukee. My wife, a teacher, had to be up at 5:30am for work, and we didn't get home til 1:30am.
Thanks for the roadtrip report, fun.
Mick,
I was there a few months ago summer time. What a great place. I need to go back when the one of the JAMs happen.

It seems that the "Cumberland Highlanders" TV show is coming from the old homestead...I wonder if Doc Mercer has anything to do with getting it all fixed up...I have heard he headed up a group that was going to buy Bill`s mandolin but never got all of the money together so the deal never went through...A lot of the older shows were filmed inside of Bills home and they still show exerps from thos from time to time...
Maybe I`ll get out there one day soon, I hope so anyway....
Willie
Maybe we need to Willie..just for the fun of it...
