I read a great article on chord substitutions for minor II-V-i chord changes today, here: http://www.guitarworld.com/jazz-guit...comp-and-solo#
When I tried the changes out on my fifths-tuned six-string sort of mandocello instrument, the changes worked out so well and are so pretty that I thought I would share them with you.
Imagine a typical minor ii-V-i:
Am7b5 -- D7 alt -- Gm7
The author suggests that you use chord substitution and instead play:
Am7b5 -- Cm7b5 -- Bbmaj7
I've made up some suggestions for the fingerings:
Play through them a few times. I love the easy voice-leading all the way through. I usually walk the bass note down between the C and the Bb, just to voice lead it a little more.
Thoughts?
