I am starting on a prototype F4. I want to use a F4 body and bracing with F4 graduations maybe add a mm throughout the center due to the extra string tension, but put a long scale neck on it and elevate the fingerboard. my objective is to get that nice tubby sound but get a little more volume in the process. I was just wondering if anybody else has tried one like this and if so how did it work out.

Several makers have done this and it works well. Would that be an F 4 1/2?

My Pomeroy F4 fits this description, being an F4 built on an F5 'chassis'. You can see what Don Paine does with the concept at http://www.pomeroyinstruments.com. His version is X-braced, but I couldn't tell you the net affect of the bracing versus other mods. It sounds great!
