Default Thile & Daves: It's Fiddle Tune Request Time!

I'm proud to share another new video that I've produced for Old First Reformed Church here in Brooklyn. Michael Daves (best known as guitarist for Tony Trischka, and duo partner with Chris Thile) organized a benefit concert for emergency repairs to the church a few weeks back, and between that and these concert videos, they're very close to meeting the $$ goal of their Indiegogo campaign.

The boys have been taking fiddle tune requests ever since they started playing together, and I've never heard them do the same medley twice. There are dozens of lofi cell phone recordings, but you can listen to this one on youtube in HD, and I'm pretty happy with the fidelity.

    Thanks gang.

David, if you click on the youtube page, there's a link to the Church's indiegogo campaign. I guess I can put the link HERE too. I know some of the Cafe folks have contributed via the Andy Statman video, which is great.

Here's all the videos I've done for Old First.

I'll finish another with Tony Trischka and Kenny Kosek tomorrow, and then one more of Thile and Daves on Friday, so subscribe and stay tuned.

As promised, he hits keep coming, from Twangbox Productions! The recent benefit concert for Old First Brooklyn featured a reunion of these two characters, Trischka and Kosek, from the days of legendary BG bands, Country Cooking and Breakfast Special. (sorry no mandolin, but I'm working on a killer Thile/Daves song new) Watch it in HD! http://youtu.be/Mrefj-bywP4

Brad nice videos! I've been seeing Michael Daves post these on his facebook page. I also see you edit the newsletter for RetroFret? I stopped in there the other day for the first time and it just so happened to be their holiday party. Very cool place!

Wow. It appears that Daves keeps Thile "interested", if you know what I mean.

This is my favorite of the FTRTs I've seen on youtube

I'm sure the performers would wince a little at the 'imperfections' of that one. But for a fan like me it's fun to see them stumble a bit, then recover so effortlessly.

I'm sorry for the delay, but I couldn't get the OK from the musicians and Nonesuch over the holidays until now to release this final production from benefit concert: CTMD rocking the title track from their CD. And on a personal note, let me thank any Cafe folks who have donated to Old First, the church with a special place in the hearts of Brooklyn's bluegrass fans among many others. They easily exceeded their $30K goal, and with one day to go, the donations keep coming. I'm glad I could help.

I love Michael Daves’s choices on that album. Really catchy improvisational ideas, always in service to the melody. And they sing well together.

I think he’s worked hard to NOT plow the field that Clarence White and Tony Rice worked so thoroughly. He’s his own player, for sure. And a great singer too.
