Yes, Good-bye Ritchie.
I saw him live once, about '70. He was great. What I liked about him, different from the other Folkies was his rhythm. He used percussion and an Electric lead guitar in sort of a Wes Montgomeryish style. Love that combo. Of course, he was a very expressive singer.
I had dubbed my old copy of "Mixed Bag" to CD for my daughter last year. She really got into it. She's a percussionist & likes acoustic singer/songwriter stuff. So it was right up her alley.
"High Flying Bird" a favorite of mine.
The way he kept playing & improvised at Woodstock when his set was extended..... since other acts were having a hard time getting there...... was very memorable & included in the Woodstock film. I heard he had already played everything he knew........what a great performance!
I wasn't a fan pre-Woodstock but after seeing that film when it came out I became one. Great voice.

The man was a talent. Loved the unorthodox guitar playing.

Richie Havens,
Wednesday July 13 1977. He was playing in Central Park, it was a great concert. Then, silence...darkness...blackout. All hell broke loose. It was a wild ride that night and the next day. It was the best of time it was the worst.
Thats my memory.

My dear friend Ebony was Richie's conga player for the Woodstock set. I miss them both.
