Help with an intonation issue [or non issue]..

I just noticed on my new mandolin that when I fret the E strings at the third fret...if I am pressing too close to the second fretwire...it actually goes sharp closer to the tone of the 4th fret.

Does that make any sense? This is new Loar LM-600 and I was already set to take it in to a local shop tomorrow for a setup as it did not come setup from the store my wife purchased it from here in town.

I have test the other strings and dont hear this happening on the others anywhere up the fret board.

Hope I am clearly describing what I am hearing.

Based on what you've said, you may well have some problems with a fret popping up or something like that - definitely take it in for a set up.

Hi Alan,

Get something that spans 3 frets at a time (like a credit card). Place it across three frets and see if it rocks. Try this up and down the fingerboard on both sides and the center of the frets. If it does, you have uneven frets.

Robert...thanks for the advice. I just dropped it off at the shop for a setup and told them about the issue so hopefully they will address it during their work on the instrument.
