Thread: The Doflein Method Volume 2 for Mandolin ??

Question The Doflein Method Volume 2 for Mandolin ??

A friend of mine gave me a violin method titled as "The Doflein Method Volume 2 Development Of Technique, Doflein and Doflein ED4752". Although it seems a good progressive guidance for the violin techniques, I am not sure if this is applicable for the mandolin studies.

In my first contact, I found an excellent triads lesson N. 79 (a study waltz composed by Bartolommmeo Campagnolli).

I would like to know if there is other mandolincafe member that used this book for the mandolin studies. If affirmative, what are the most recommended lessons for mandolin?

The Doflein method has a lot of really nice duets. I'm not sure if people have used it for mandolin. Others have discussed the other topic of good method books for mandolin and a search will show a lot good suggestions.

DougC thanks for your comments and good recommendations. I will continue to explore the duet lessons. Maybe the most representative aspect of The Doflein Method is to have contact with several musical struture styles (barroco, romantic and others).

I've used the Doflein method with students - excellent resource. The music is pretty interesting. Doflein has collected some good tunes, and arranged them in a systematic way to help build reading skills. There's also a Volume I, also good.

    Dear A. Watters,

You are completely right. This violin method is progressive in most of all musical aspects: technique, ensemble practice, reading, fingering, etc.

Do you recommend any specific lesson? What are most beatifull peaces to be studied? Any personal suggestion?

Well, I'm sure everyone will have a different opinion. I especially like some of the renaissance music, some modal music - dorian, for example. And beautiful folk songs too. It's nice to have such good music to explore, when what you're really doing is working through a method book!
